Networking Made Easy: Share Your QR Code in Seconds
This article describes how to share your LinkedIn QR code in seconds.
The return of in-person events has been a breath of fresh air after the extended pandemic with a long road back to normalcy. These gatherings offer excellent opportunities to learn something new, foster meaningful conversations, and expand networks. For me, making even one new connection makes an event worthwhile. While some may connect with many people, as an introvert, I’m content with quality over quantity.
Business networking has evolved significantly. Gone are the days when everyone carried stacks of company business cards. In my last few roles, even before the pandemic, I noticed that traditional cards were becoming less common. While I’ve always kept personal business cards on hand, they do come with drawbacks:
- You must design and create them. And then pay to print them.
- You must remember to bring them along, as many as needed, and offer to exchange them.
- They can become ragged after being carried for a while.
- After collecting cards, you’re stuck with the tedious task of entering the data and connecting online – often leading to errors in email addresses or names.
None of the above are necessary with a Quick Response (QR) code.
The Better Way: Share Your LinkedIn QR Code
Thankfully, there’s now a better, more efficient way to connect. This method isn’t entirely error-free, but the steps are easy to follow and after making a few connections, it’s easy to remember how.
Almost everyone has a LinkedIn profile, and with it comes a QR code that can be easily shared using a smartphone (Figure 1). It is already created and accessible with your LinkedIn profile, so all you need to do is start using it! Once you’ve mastered the steps, this method becomes second nature.
Share Your LinkedIn QR Code
Here’s how to share your LinkedIn QR code:
1. Open your LinkedIn feed and select the search bar.

2. Select the QR icon.

3. This displays your QR code (see also, Figure 1), which others can scan.

4. Save a copy or share the QR code from your phone or electronic device.
Your QR code will appear under the “My Code” tab (top left). To scan someone else’s code, switch to the “Scan” tab (top right) or use your phone’s camera.
To ensure access even when offline, save a copy of your QR code as an image on your phone (Figure 1).
Pro Tip: Make the Right Connection
When using the LinkedIn QR code, be sure to select Connect instead of Follow. Sending a connection request ensures you can message each other once the request is accepted. Following, on the other hand, doesn’t establish a direct connection, limiting your ability to interact.
Why Networking Matters
Building connections both in person and online is a proven strategy to expand your network and accelerate career success. By leveraging tools like LinkedIn’s QR code feature, you can streamline the networking process, eliminate errors, and make lasting professional connections.
